Lead On

Lord, how can you bless me so?
How can you call me your child, knowing what I am?

I have turned from you countless times,
Blatantly ignored your pleas and guidance.
I've tried to find my own path and failed at every turn.
What good is my own strength or will?

I come back to you, expecting harsh words and bitter reprimands,
Yet you receive me with open arms and a loving embrace,
Forgetting forever my transgression and error.
How could I ever repay you for that?

You seek to bless me in ways I could never imagine,
Bringing me ever closer to you along the way.
You teach me that your path is the best and wisest course.
Why, then, can't I see it?

Constantly I fall, again and again, yet always you pick me up
And set me upon my feet once more, giving me strength and purpose.
Your love amazes me, astounds me, shocks me.
Who am I that you should care for me so?

You guide me through darkness and light
Ever onward toward your awesome presence.
In your face alone is my soul at peace.
Where else in this world could ever I find such calm?

Lead on, Lord, lead on.
